beladona Memorial's First Life

After finishing my gig with the 6th community bank, I started a new job on March 5th,2007 — still in loan servicing, but as a Director for a non-bank commercial lender. I have found that there is a big difference between working with SBA loans and being an SBA lender!

In July 2007 I moved into a place much closer to work — I am loving the shorter commute [but it can take 45 minutes to travel less than 10 miles during rush hour], a more robust internet connection [at least when Comcast grants me a connection at all] and having a garage under the apartment building. It is a big place just for me and Kula — for those who used to listen to BUCKET, podcat moved in with me. I still have boxes and bags to unpack, but they are tucked away in a spare bedroom. The books are out on the shelves now, and the living room furniture arrived around the end of April, but I haven’t gotten much further than that and it has been an entire year!

If you really want to know more, send me an IM and ask.

beladona Memorial's Second Life

On 1 JUL 08, I was 2 1/2 years old!

==============================

PARTNERED: I have always been a bit of a loner in SL. I was briefly partnered back at the end of August 06, but it ended in less than 30 days. He was married in RL, and the end was not pretty — there were real consequences to his marriage. But I was genuinely attached to him, and although he is no longer in world and we are no longer in touch, I truly wish him well.

After that imbroglio, I was very very careful of where my heart wandered. I spent a great deal of time with Johnny in world and enjoyed every single minute of it. I spent a great deal of time off world with another young man, and I enjoyed every minute of that too.

But, there has been one very consistent relationship for me in SL. I met Sam on his rezz day — 28 OCT 06. He had been taken sailing by a gentleman who found him fishing on his pier, and in the distance they could see the fireworks starting at the particle factory. Upon the recommendation of the sailor, Sam flew up to see what was happening — and met me. From that day on, it was seldom that we didn’t speak or spend time together. Even after I learned that he was an alt and met his “primary” a couple months later, we stayed close. In April our relationship started to broaden and deepen. In May I bought the land next to his and we started making a community in Lost Grounds.

On Monday, September 3rd, 2007, at 6 AM EDT and 11 AM GMT, Sam Holyoke asked me to be his partner in world. And I accepted with all my heart!

==============================

I joined when SL first opened — quit when I found out that SL and dialup didn’t go well together. I re-joined again when Howard Rhinegold from the Brainstorms community gave a SL talk and I found out that my son was already in world — Tasha Loveless. Later I got more active when the BUCKET podcast moved in world — Madison Carnot is my RL daughter. For a long time, I have been a hanger-on and fan girl around and about the podcast community.

FWIIW, IMNSHO, the people who make SL worthwhile are the ones who are truly here for a “second life”. The formation of communities and the social interactions are as key to this environment as the ability to create.

It has been interesting! And like all interesting experiences, it has been painful as well as pleasant. Although I do not waste time/energy on regrets, there are things that I fervently wish had been different. But in SL as in RL, we are what our choices have made us, neh? In some ways who we become in our SL is a truer reflection of our inner selves than the roles that we play in RL. People who are basically good-hearted come across that way. People who have nasty minds stand revealed. And all of us get to display our inner geeks!

My area of expertise seems to be exploration and helping newcomers. I truly enjoy meeting new folks and finding out new things here!

Be warned:in this very rich environment where you can immerse yourself so completely, your emotions will become engaged — and not everyone is cognizant of that. Among the many excellent features of SL, there is no auto-return on hearts, so be wary of where your’s wanders…

YMMV!

My Second Life Resume:

Currently a SL Mentor!

I worked with WatchmanD Senior as manager for the CLOSE UP club — resigned as of 31 OCT 06

I am currently an unofficial greeter for newcomers — I have applied for official status, but LL is too backed up at the moment to process the applications they are receiving.

    hey beladona! the duplicates have been removed. there was an issue with second life sending multiple copies of postcards. linden lab took care of it, but just in case it ever happens again, i also added a mechanism to detect and prevent duplicates.
