it is a very recent video as I have just received it .. it is in Ankara , capital city .. the municipality is called Cankaya municipality ... they talk about the numbers that 20.000 OR 24.000 dogs are being killed including 6.000 puppies.... dumped into this area to starve to death ...

Also, he says that around 20 billion new turkish lira .. which is equivalent to 20 billion canadian dollars have been spent to rescue + spay and neuter and vaccinate these dogs... i think that they put this money into their pocket... and killed the dogs so that they do not need to spend this money on animals and their welfare... I hope they all go to hell... the man on the video he says that he got the order from the president, who is his boss to dump the dogs...

the last 4 years thousands of dogs have been killed .. in addition, the president of the municipality, with his permission puppies have been sold .. to make more money from these animals... puppies who could not be sold .. 6.000 of them have been killed .... The BUAV has obtained shocking never-seen-before footage of the trapping of wild monkeys in Cambodia destined for factory farms supplying the international research industry.

Appallingly, the monkeys were even hunted inside a nature reserve in Cambodia — supposedly a place of safety. The hunters used catapults and beat the tree trunks with oars to scare the monkeys out of the trees and drive them into nets. Then screaming in terror, or rigid with fear, these highly intelligent creatures were grabbed by their tails, stuffed into bags and stored in the bottom of a boat before being sold to a dealer of a monkey farm.

CHINA- Nightmare for the Cats from Nanjing to Guangzhou

We just received a email from our Animal Rights Activists friends in China, which shows how much it is important to help them keep on with their fight to bann cat-dog food from the traditional dishes, and to promote vegetarinims.

Chinese Netizens did a tremendous chain work in order to save the 5.000 cats and kittens that were waiting at the railway station in Nanjing to be sent to Guangzhou cat market where they will be sold, and cooked for gourmet dish.

Despite of the efforts, the Chinese Animal Rights activists unfortunately did not reach what they wanted : free call the cats and kittens from their fate. They called the police, intercepted phone calls between the traders, took away their equipments.. 1350 cats and kttens could be saved, under the nose of the railway station staff.

The Chinese netizens are rather angry, they publish as much information as possible on the internet in China as to inform everyone of the unhealthy consomption of cat meat. They got the support of nutrition director of the Institute Professor Su Yixiang, Guangdong Province, who was interwied by a reporter about the Lingnan's culinary culture, as supposedly 10.000 cats are eaten every day in that part of China. Professor Su Yixiang stated that the local people has had a miscellaneous food custom.

Animal Feelings: Learning Not to Care and Not to Know

At a recent New Jersey public hearing, the topic was a proposed bear hunt. A small boy walked up to the microphone, said his name was Bobby, and told the officials that shooting bears was horrible. "How would you like it if someone shot at you? You wouldn't like it, would you?" Then Bobby threw up his arms and said, "But you won't care what I say because I'm only seven years old," and walked back to his seat in a dejected manner.

Recent research has revealed that animals are so important to young children that they routinely dream about them. In fact, 3- to 5-year-olds dream more frequently about animals than about people or any other topic, and animal dreams continue to be prominent at least until the age of 7 years.

But as children grow up in the Western world they, like Bobby, find that their deep feelings for animals aren't shared by the dominant culture.

The rudest awakening occurs when children discover the source of the meat they eat. In a preliminary study of urban, middle class children, one of my undergraduate students, Alina Pavlakos, found that most 5-year-olds didn't know where meat comes from. They knew they ate meat, but when asked, "Do you eat animals?," most said, "Nooo!,"-as if the idea were outrageous.

As Jane Goodall points out, some children want to become vegetarians at this point, but their parents rarely permit it.

Prince Charles was yesterday filmed blasting pheasants out of the sky.

Royal watchers say he tries to preserve his "green" image by avoiding being seen with a gun. And Charles looked suitably fed up as he realised he had been spotted shooting on the Queen's Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

The 60-year-old prince was out shooting with friends including Tory MP Nicholas Soames, 60, and King Constantine of Greece. An onlooker said: "As soon as Charles realised there was a photographer around, he walked behind a hedge."





Yesterday Animal Aid chief Andrew Tyler said: "The heir to the throne needs to demonstrate he cares genuinely about nature and should lay down his guns for good."

A Kenyan company, Target Target Africa are planning to hold a cultural extravaganza to promote Western Province as a tourist destination, with bull fighting as a climax on the 13th of December 2008 at Kasarani Stadium, in Nairobi.

5000 halal butchers coming to uk

Halal Meat Industry to Import 5,000 Pakistani Butchers

Over 5,000 butchers from Pakistan will be offered employment in the halal meat industry in Britain, it has been announced.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between National Halal Foods Group (NHFG) in Britain and the Overseas Employment Cooperation of Pakistan, signed at the Pakistan High Commission in London on Friday, has cemented the deal.


The Farm Animal Welfare Council (FAWC), which advises the government on how to avoid cruelty to livestock, says the way halal meat is produced causes severe suffering to animals and should be banned.


The Muslim religion demands that slaughter is carried out with a single cut to the throat, rather than the more widespread method of stunning with a bolt into the head before slaughter.


Peter Jinman, president of the British Veterinary Association, is on record as urging Muslims to be respectful of animals. “We’re looking at what is acceptable in the moral and ethical society we live in,” he said.


The FAWC said it wanted an end to the exemption currently allowed for halal meat from the legal requirement to stun animals first. It says cattle can take up to two minutes to bleed to death — amounting to an abuse of the animals.


“This is a major incision into the animal and to say that it doesn’t suffer is quite ridiculous,” said FAWC chairwoman, Dr Judy MacArthur Clark.


Compassion in World Farming backed the call, saying: “We believe that the law must be changed to require all animals to be stunned before slaughter.
”

"Bear baiting and shooting". A "technique" among many hunters in Canada.

What does it consist of? Hunters place bait in a barrel to attract the bears, and when these intelligent, gentle, and curious animals come to eat, they are shot often several times before they die. Many bears escape wounded and face a slow death from blood loss, gangrene, or other infections, dehydration, or starvation.

Mother bears who are killed leave behind orphaned cubs who are completely dependent on them for food during their first 17 months, and when left in the wilderness alone, they often cannot survive. In many areas there are few restrictions against shooting mother bears with nursing cubs, leading to the destruction of entire families.

Because of the barbaric nature of bear baiting, it has been banned in British Columbia and many U.S. states. Many Canadians and numerous hunting and conservation groups agree that this is a cruel and unsportsmanlike practice, yet black bears continue to be mercilessly slaughtered in Canada.

Foi com enorme indignação e preocupação que tomei conhecimento, através da comunicação social, de que a Fundação Champalimaud, instituição que V. Exa. dirige e pela qual sempre tive a maior consideração pelos bons serviços prestados e preocupações humanitárias, se prepara para, em colaboração com a Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian e a Universidade de Lisboa, construir um dos maiores biotérios da Europa.



Considerando que:

- Segundo a entidade governamental americana Food and Drug Administration (2004) apenas 8% do conhecimento obtido através de experiências com animais foi considerado seguro nos ensaios clínicos com humanos;

- O facto de medicamentos considerados seguros após experimentação animal se poderem vir a revelar perigosos ou mesmo letais, quando usados em pacientes humanos, como aconteceu já diversas vezes (por exemplo o medicamento Vioxx, usado para combater o reumatismo em 2004 causou 27 785 ataques cardíacos, dos quais 6 946 foram fatais);

- Cientistas de renome internacional como o Dr. Richard Klausner, Director do National Cancer Institute admitirem a pouca fiabilidade da experimentação animal, como está patente na entrevista dada à revista Times, em Maio de 1998 ("A história da investigação do cancro tem sido uma história sobre curar cancro em ratos. Curamos cobaias com cancro há décadas e simplesmente não funciona em seres humanos");

- Bruxelas propôs um conjunto de alterações para rever a directiva 86/609/EEC porque, segundo o Eurogroup for Animals, desde 1986 foram encontradas novas metodologias científicas, aumentaram as diferenças legislativas entre os países e subiu o tom de crítica dos cidadãos europeus em relação aos testes em animais;

- Ainda que não esteja previsto, por enquanto, o fim dos animais de laboratório, a Comissão quer preparar o caminho para que isso aconteça. "Cada Estado-membro deve designar um laboratório encarregado de desenvolver alternativas [aos testes em animais] e a Comissão Europeia está disposta a desbloquear os recursos para os validar", disseram fontes próximas de Stavros Dimas, comissário europeu para o Ambiente. O objectivo é reduzir ao mínimo o número de animais usados em testes. O comissário grego considera "essencial pôr um ponto final nas experiências com animais";

- A experimentação animal é uma prática eticamente inaceitável e a tendência das novas directivas comunitárias será sempre no sentido de a abolir e nunca de a fomentar.


Venho desta forma, expressar o meu mais profundo desagrado por esta iniciativa da Fundação que V. Exa. dirige e solicitar:
1) Que reconsidere a construção do biotério, o qual condeno veementemente, por acreditar que só irá contribuir para gerar sofrimento animal e atrasar o conhecimento científico;
2) Não utilize animais no seu novo centro de investigação, cingindo-se à utilização das alternativas já testadas e validadas pelas entidades competentes, as quais já provaram ser mais seguras, mais fiáveis e moralmente aceitáveis.
