Triste Bertrand's First Life
I’m a native southern Californian, moved to Florida after getting married (to a woman I met in an AOL® chat room) and have been here since 2000. In 2003 we adopted our son, Samuel, at birth from a family that my wife had grown up with in Colorado.
From 1986 until 1999 I worked in some aspect of worship ministry in southern California, playing keyboard/piano, writing, arranging, or providing spiritual direction.
I spent 15 years addicted to pornography, mainly online, and it nearly destroyed my marriage. Thanks to counseling, working with Celebrate Recovery®—a Christ-centered step program for hurts, habits, and hangs-ups—and being treated for the underlying social anxiety disorder, things have been much better (except for the fact that Paroxetine puts me to sleep).
I’ve been working for AT&T since I arrived in Florida in 2000, and currently work from home as a QA/M&P/Process Manager doing production metrics (a fancy title that means I get paid a salary to crunch numbers in a database and report them), reporting to a boss in the Atlanta area. For the first few years I commuted the 40 miles each way to Tampa and back (these Florida people don’t know what traffic is).
I’m a member of First Baptist Church at the Mall here in Lakeland. I also attend and volunteer at Celebrate Recovery® at Bell Shoals Baptist Church in Brandon (20 miles west) as a small group leader supporting men struggling with sexual addiction.
I’m a scooterist—I’ve ridden my 2004 Yamaha Vino 125 over 21,000 miles over the past 2½ years, including the 120-mile ride out to Daytona Beach, biker capital of the world.

I teach a world-wide Bible study called “The Journey” every other Friday night, combining the 3-D world of Second Life® with streaming audio and a conference call.
NOTE: Currently the Bible Study is on hiatus due to first-life family commitments. Hoping to resume after the summer.
